Festivals and Events: Miramichi Fusion Festival

This is the first post in the Festivals and Events segment.

The Miramichi Fusion Festival is an annual festival that unites the community and encourages youth participation in community while raising money for Autism Resources Miramichi.

The festival originally started as a slow-pitch tournament and evolved into a full-day event with activities for everyone. There are carnival games, live music, skateboarding and video game clinics and competitions, basketball, a food tent, and much more!

A jumping castle was one of the fun activities at the festival.

                                                              The teen room activities.

                                                             Video game competition.

                                                             Live music by local bands.

Unfortunately, this year's festival took place on a rainy day, forcing the organizers to switch the slow-pitch tournament to a floor hockey tournament.

Despite the bad weather, the festival had a great turn out and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to Logan, one of the many festival organizers, the day was a great success!

Places to Eat: Chez Raymond

As part of the travel experience this summer, I will be doing different segments. This is the first installment in the Places to Eat Segment.

Chez Raymond is a little restaurant in Neguac, which is about 40 minutes out of the city of Miramichi past Douglastown. They are located 486 Main St. and can be reached by calling (506) 776-9000.

The restaurant has a friendly staff, a nice atmosphere and delicious, well-priced food. The decor is modern chic and the space is quite expansive with three separate eating places to choose from. The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with breakfast served until 11 a.m. If you don't want to sit in the restaurant, they also do take-out.

                                                                 The main dining area.

                                                                The booth section.

                                                             Seating in the back area.

                                                          The dessert counter.

They offer a breakfast menu and a lunch and supper menu. The choices available range from seafood to burgers and steaks, escargot and french onion soup to salads and club sandwiches. They also feature several different types of poutine and an extensive alcohol menu.

Escargot and mozzarella sticks are two of many selections that are served on the appetizer menu at Chez Raymond.

Smoked meat poutine is one of their specialty poutines. Some of the other ones include pizza poutine, Italian poutine and mess poutine which consists of fries, cheese, gravy and peas.

On the high-end side of the menu, they offer cordon bleu, served with coleslaw, vegetables and rice.

One of the seafood dishes available is the fisherman's platter, served with haddock, scallops, lobster, coleslaw, vegetables and the choice of rice, potatoes or french fries.

A buffet is available for lunch every Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a breakfast buffet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Sundays. If you're looking for special events, Tuesday is wing night, Wednesday is spaghetti night and Friday is rib night.

Chez Raymond is a great place to eat, they speak both French and English and the quality and quantity of the food is worth the price you pay. In addition to the restaurant there is also a motel connected in case you're looking for a place to stay while passing through the area. Introducing Kelsey Marie

Hi All!

My name is Kelsey and I am a journalism student at Ryerson University in Toronto.

I have always loved to travel and plan to be a travel writer in the near future. While I'm in school I won't necessarily have the opportunity to travel to far away places, so instead I intended to make the most out the places I am.

This summer I will "travel" around my hometown and make the most of the tourism opportunities and travel experiences that people can have if they visit. I also hope to check out some of New Brunswick and paint the picture of beauty I've lived in for most of my life.

As soon as the trees get their leaves and the weather warms up, expect to find me out and about snapping pictures.

Until then, keep well and travel!
