Festivals and Events: Miramichi Scottish Festival

This past weekend the Miramichi Scottish Festival took place. It kicked off Friday evening with a meet and greet at the Riverside Entertainment Centre with musical entertainment from various artists.

Saturday the outdoor events took place at Waterford Green with children's activities and a Ceilidh, which is a Scottish musical evening with dancing. The crowd got up on their feet for dancing during some of the waltzes performed by the Miramichi Fiddlers.

This year's special guests, all the way from Fochabers, Scotland, were the Fochabers Fiddlers. The members of the group are between the ages of 15 and 19 and are in Miramichi for a musical tour this weekend and next week.

Sunday started with a service at St. Andrew's United Church and then the festival wrapped up with a day at MacDonald Farm.

The festival is one of the many annual staples in the community, where people can take pride in their Scottish history and come together to celebrate. Despite the rainy weather, the festival was a hit and many people came out to enjoy the weekend's celebrations.
