The Seamen's Hospital is one of the many historic buildings in the city. Built in 1830 and completed in 1831, the structure is made of sandstone and was originally a marine hospital for seamen involved in the lumber trade.
The Seamen's Hospital.
The hospital closed in 1921 and was commemorated by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada in September 2000. Since then, it has been used for local events throughout the year.
Sadly, due to damage and high repair costs, the building is no long open to the public to learn about its history. However, the building can still be viewed from the outside and is located at 12 Vye St. for anyone who is interested in the architecture.
