Places to Eat: Brian's Takeout

Brian's Takeout is one of the local places you can get good quality homemade food. Located at 344 Wellington St on the Chatham side of the river, they have a homey atmosphere which reinforces the homemade attitude they have.

Despite being called a takeout restaurant, there is seating inside.

The restaurant has fold-up takeout menus at the counter for customers.

Brian's Takeout has an extensive menu with homemade salads, burgers, chicken, munchies and seafood dishes. They serve scallops, clams, shrimp and lobster rolls, as well as fish.

Things to Do: Maurie's

This is the first installment in the Things to Do segment.

Do you like golf, but aren't that great at it? Do you want to golf without worrying about what other people think about your skills ? There's a solution and answers to both those questions at 119 Water Street!

Maurie's is the local mini putting course in Miramichi, located on the Chatham side of the river.

The fun starts before even setting foot on the course. When you walk in, the building, you are greeted with a fun atmosphere and great creativity.

The price board located behind the cash makes it fun and easy to read.

Gold clubs of all sizes are easy to pick.

Originally owned by Maurie, from Miramichi, it was sold to Andrew, who spends his summer in Miramichi running the course, but lives in Montreal during the rest of the year.

The course is fun, with traditional holes and fun twists that are local or hold a fun twist for players.

One of the holes is designed like a well. The bucket moves up and down, making for a tricky shot.

For a fun twist, Maurie's has a wheel of fun ways to hit the ball on some of the holes, such as hitting the ball with putter behind your back, between your legs or using the opposite end of the club and other fun ones.

Also, with the location close to trees, Maurie's has bug spray for adults and children along the way, for people who haven't brought their own.

Take your ice cream outside and cool off under the shade of one of the umbrellas at the picnic tables.

Try your hand at the riddles located at the picnic tables while you savour your dessert.

A new addition this year is the wooden train next to the main building. This is a fun spot for children to play and use their imaginations.

To make things easier and to avoid technology malfunctions, Maurie's takes cash only.

The sign on the cash register directs patrons to the nearest ATM's.
