Festivals and Events: Miramichi Rock 'N' Roll Festival

The 21st Annual Rock 'N' Rock Festival just took place in Miramichi this past weekend. After missing a year last summer, Miramichiers were glad to have the festival back.

The festival kicked off Thursday night with opening ceremonies and the street dance on the Waterfront in Newcastle, and the Canada Day/Rock 'N' Roll Festival fireworks display.

During the street dance on Thursday there were also food trucks on site.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday featured live entertainment in Queen Elizabeth Park and various games.

Saturday there was a Pro Wrestling in the big tent for a $5 admission, as well as adult dances Friday and Saturday night for $10 admission. Saturday was also the day of the Golden Oldie Cruise Around the River, where owners took a spin in their cars through Newcastle and Chatham for everyone to get a good look at their hard work.

Sunday had an afternoon filled with games for children, live entertainment and the 21st Annual Goodie Shop Restaurant Golden Oldie Car Show with all the classic cars on display for admirers to see.

Things to Do: Fishing

Once upon a time Miramichi's chief industry was lumber. At one time there were 44 mills here and shipbuilding provided great revenue. Nowadays Miramichi is well known for fishing.

With a huge river running right through the middle of the city, which eventually connects up with the Atlantic Ocean, there's no wonder fishing it such a big part of life here.

Fishing enthusiasts, whether professional or for hobby, can be found along the banks of the river or in boats on the water during the many different fishing seasons we have. The Miramichi River is used by many species of fish during their annual spawning runs and is home to salmon, bass and trout as they pass through. ** Note that all images are from the Striped Bass season in May.**
